Cannabidiol, abbreviated as CBD, is one of many chemical cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. Our CBD products are hemp-derived, not marijuana-derived. Both hemp and marijuana plants can be derived from the same cannabis family (Cannabis sativa), but they are distinctly different. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) concentration is one of the main distinguishing factors between hemp and marijuana. In marijuana, THC levels can reach 30%, depending on the strain, while hemp THC levels are always less than .3%. THC is the chemical cannabinoid responsible for the psychoactive effects of marijuana, otherwise known as a “high.” Unlike THC, CBD does not produce a psychoactive effect. CBD binds with cannabinoid receptors in your body, which can affect pain, memory, mood, etc. The 2018 Farm Bill or Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 removed hemp (hemp being cannabis with a THC concentration of no more than 0.3%) from classification as marijuana, thus legalizing CBD products in all fifty states.
The Food and Drug Administration has yet to issue any usage guidelines, or determined official medical uses of CBD with the exception of one form of epilepsy. Studies have shown a possible reduction in various types of chronic pain, as well as helping with anxiety and depression. More research is needed on the subject, therefore the FDA has yet to approve CBD as a method of treatment or set usage guidelines beyond the limit of THC concentration. The FDA recommends consulting with a doctor (or veterinarian if you intend to use CBD on pets) before use of CBD.
There are reports of CBD products being inaccurately labeled or containing an improper concentration of CBD. Old Sparta Inc. only sells CBD products that are tested by an independent third party to verify the quality and THC concentration. This is to guarantee the safety of all of our products. Third party lab testing also ensures that our products are of high standards and accurate representations. You can browse our wide selection of CBD products from our website's store.
